The countdown is on to the Hawaiian Ride for Youth – an epic 700km ride through regional Western Australia which shines the light on youth mental health.
This year, 140 cyclists across 25 teams will take part in the 5-day ride, raising critical awareness and much-needed funds for Youth Focus, to support young people at risk of suicide and those living with mental health challenges.
Now in its 19th year, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth takes the mental health message directly to young people along coastal, inland and Wheatbelt routes from Albany to Perth.
The cyclists begin the grueling challenge on March 23.
Throughout the journey, riders will visit 20 regional high schools and engage with more than 2,500 students to share personal stories and communicate the importance of positive mental health.
Youth Focus Chief Executive Officer Arthur Papakotsias said the Hawaiian Ride for Youth contributed crucial funds to youth mental health services in WA.
“More and more young people need our help,” Mr Papakotsias said.
Last financial year, Youth Focus supported a record number of young people in WA, providing free counselling and assessment services to 6,090 young people, as well as school and community education to another 5,773 people.
This year, the Hawaiian Ride for Youth hopes to raise $1.8 million for Youth Focus.
