‘The Future is Now’ at Hawaiian’s Park Centre

18 Apr 2023

This month, Hawaiian’s Park Centre was transformed into a vibrant display of creativity and imagination as we proudly hosted the inaugural Youth Art Awards, titled “The Future is Now.” This event provides a platform for the youth of our community to showcase their artistic talents, with the best entries receiving opportunities for mentorship by some of the area’s most experienced artists.

The exhibition was presented by Renée Parnell, a local creative artist from Wrenscape, supported by Hawaiian’s Park Centre and the Town of Victoria Park as part of their annual Arts Season.

The centrepiece of it all is the unique installation titled “Birds of a Feather,” which combined the individual “feathers” of contributors from local schools, Juniper Aged Care, Boronia Women’s pre-release centre, Vic Park Printmaking Group, Country Women’s Association of Western Australia Inc (Victoria Park), and many more.

The judging panel, consisting of local creatives, Jacqui Hills, Mark Parfitt, and the Town’s Arts Officer, Yvette Coyne, had the difficult task of selecting the winners with over 300 entries received from ages 6-18, from almost every school in the catchment area!

Opening night was a great success, with a turnout and energy that exceeded our expectations. We were delighted to see the Mayor of Victoria Park, Karen Vernon, Deputy Mayor, Claire Anderson, Bronwyn Ife, Jesvin Karimi, Luana Lisandro, and Jesse Hamer in attendance, representing the local government.

“The Future is Now” is running until Sunday, April 23, and we encourage everyone to come down, check out some amazing works, and vote for the People’s Choice award.

Congratulations to the team and all involved in bringing this incredible activation to life.
