There was much celebration last night when the winners of the annual Victoria Park Art Awards were announced.
The Park Centre is proud to once again partner with the Town of Victoria Park and Victoria Park Centre for the Arts for this creative and inspiring event.
Over $6000 in prizes were awarded at last night’s official opening night and awards presentation.
With 180 entries to the prestigious competition, it was a tough decision selecting the winners.
The $2000 major prize was awarded to Jennifer Sadler, of Carramar, for her piece titled “Travelling”.
The judges commented Jennifer’s artwork was very ethereal, evoking a sense of the unknown.
The Local Image category was won by John Ainsworth, of Thornlie, for his submission “Lights”.
Susan Gates, of Victoria Park, won the Local Artist Category for her piece “Park Portraits #9 The Guardian”.
The artwork features The Park Centre’s security guard John Iketau.
Other winners were Julie Sylvester for the 2D category, Ruben Willis for the 3D category, Brandon Grantham-Spurling for the Indigenous category, Najib Isaak for the secondary student category and Paul Fullwood for the photographic category.
Town of Victoria Park Mayor Trevor Vaughan said the awards were a wonderful opportunity for established and budding artists to display their work in public.
Evan Briers, Director of Investments for Hawaiian (owners of The Park Centre), said Hawaiian was proud to support the local community.
“Partnering with The Town of Victoria Park in this way demonstrates Hawaiian’s commitment to our local community and the fantastic art display creates a great point of interest for our shoppers,” Mr Briers said.
The exhibition is now on display at The Park Centre until 1pm on Saturday 28 August 2010.
