As part of the ‘Hawaiian Alive’ program, a class of Balcatta Senior High School students have enjoyed Black Swan State Theatre Company’s “The Clean House”.
The students attended a matinee performance on Thursday 10 June, including a pre-show talk from the costume designer and sound composer.
“The Clean House” is directed by Kate Cherry and stars ex-neighbours actress Brooke Satchwell. It is a comedy about clean homes and messy lives.
Satchwell plays Matilde, a Brazilian woman who moves to the United States after her parents die and is hired as a live-in maid.
Balcatta Senior High School teacher Christine Boult thanked Hawaiian Alive for the opportunity.
“We always struggle financially to take students to live performances. An excursion like this would cost each student around $30. This is often a huge expense for parents with several children at school,” Ms Boult said.
The Hawaiian Alive program has been operating since 2008.
The program offers primary and high school students in the Perth metropolitan area the opportunity to participate in unique cultural and sporting experiences.
“The program is an exciting opportunity to offer extra-curricular activities to students without placing extra financial pressure on schools or family budgets, which no doubt is a welcome relief,” Hawaiian Chief Executive Officer Russell Gibbs said.
“Hawaiian’s diverse sponsor partners mean a wide range of activities are offered through the program, including workshops with WA Opera performers and sports clinics with Perth Wildcats basketball players.”
