Hawaiian has collaborated with its long-term sponsor partner, His Majesty's Theatre Foundation, in bringing the internationally renowned Dama Orchestra to Perth.

The Orchestra, which is based in Kuala Lumpur, is renowned for showcasing its unique brand of music and performance at international music festivals across the globe.

Dama Orchestra will present ‘I Have A Date With Spring – The Musical’, a musical adaptation of the nostalgic and heartwarming stage, movie and television series by Raymond To Kwok Wai, which won Best Screenplay at the 14th Hong Kong Film Awards.

The musical is set around the nightclub scene spanning three decades – the 1960s to the 1980s - and tells the story of the lives of four aspiring cabaret singers. A cast of 30 talented actors, led by Tan Soo Suan in the principal role of Butterfly Liu, bring the dramatic story to life through high drama, exquisite music and beautiful Chinese ‘golden oldies’ songs. Dama Orchestra’s music director Khor Seng Chew calls the musical “the Chinese Mama Mia!”

This is the second time that Hawaiian has brought Dama Orchestra to Perth audiences, with the group bringing across the Malaysian Orchestra to Perth in 2007 to perform the poignant love tale, ‘Butterfly Lovers’.

Lovers of theatre and the Arts will have the opportunity to experience this magic of Dama for themselves at three performances held at His Majesty’s Theatre between 12 & 13 March 2010 and bookings can be made through BOCS.

The Musical will be performed in Cantonese with English and Mandarin Surtitles.
