The annual Hawaiian Ride for Youth is gearing up and will be commencing this year on Tuesday 23 March.
This fundraising event is an initiative from Youth Focus, a WA-based community organisation which provides support for young people aged 12 to 18 who are showing early signs associated with depression, self-harm, and suicide. The organisation’s services include youth counselling, family therapy, peer support programs, group work and mentoring.
Hawaiian has been a proud sponsor of Youth Focus and the Hawaiian Ride for Youth since 2002.
The Hawaiian Ride for Youth is a 640km challenging 5 day road cycling journey which starts out in Albany and takes riders through the regional towns of Denmark, Walpole, Pemberton, Bussleton, Bunbury, and Mandurah, before they reach their final destination at the Fremantle Town Hall.
The group of riders will stop at ten schools along the route as they aim to share personal stories and educate the students about the issues of youth suicide, depression and self harm, at the same time raising awareness of the services that Youth Focus provide free of charge should they or their friends ever need help.
Over $3 million has been raised since the first ride, with these funds assisting Youth Focus in continuing to run its peer support programs which include weekend camps and counselling and development of services provided to the Rockingham and Mandurah regions.
